Step 3: The grisaille. Underpainting with various, diluted with turpenoid shades of gray. This step is going to be repeated several times. The finished Grisaille needs to be as realistic as possible.
Step 2: I applied a 80/20 solution of Turpenoid/gray. Ford wrote that the pencils are resistant to smearing during the wash stages but almost the entire drawing disappeared!
In International Artist no. 69 was an article about the Photorealistic painter Randy Ford. He describes his working methods step by step. I admire his work very much, so i thought i give it a try. Oil on canvas, size 15 x 15 cm.
Step 1: An accurate drawing on the canvas made with water soluble pencils in various shades of grey.
I'm working on a couple of commisions. One of them is a portrait of four cats. In the middle a oval shape with all the cats sitting on the grass and in the four corners seperate portraits. The quality of the photo is not so good but when this work is finished i'll place some better ones.
The "Verkade Office and Biscuitfactory" is ready. First I'm going to frame both new "Along the river Zaan" works. After that I will decide which one is going to hang on the wall during the group-exhibition.
The "Essencefabriek van Polak en Schwarz" is done. I'm thinking about hanging this work during the groupexhibition in "het weefhuis" but first i want to see how "Along the River Zaan #5" turns out. The group exhibition is to promote the Open Studio Zaanstreek and runs from october 3th until october 11th. Weefhuis, Lagedijk 39, Zaandijk

A new work in my 6 x6" series. This kitchen timer is in my kitchen for ages. It still is a good and timeless design. July 2009. Oilieverf on panel. 6 x 6". Available.
I'm working on 6 new paintings in the 6 x 6" series (15 x 15 cm). The paintings are all made with oil on panel. The reason that i'm working on more paintings at the same time is that i use lots of thin layers that have to dry before i can continue. I can't fill my day with one painting...
